Ugly Apple is a micro-cidery located in the rolling hills of Lanark Highlands, less than an hour from Ottawa. Family owned and operated, we craft small-batch, clear, crisp, and dry uncarbonated ciders using wild organic apples straight from the farm.
Ugly Apple cider is not your typical commercial cider. Here, we make cider the way it’s been made for hundreds of years, by harvesting wild apples, crushing, fermenting using wild yeasts, and finally serving chilled. The resulting product is naturally, still, crisp, with a complex and slightly sour flavour that’s reminiscent of England’s ‘Scrumpy,’ Germany’s ‘Apfelwein,’ or Spain’s ‘Sidra.’ Our ingredient list is simple: Apples.
Sold in 750 ml wine bottles, Ugly Apple’s offerings will vary from year to year, depending on the apple harvest. Some years we may decide to make a higher alcohol content apple wine to augment the cider offerings. Between 2016 and 2018, Ugly Apple ciders won two bronze and a silver medal at the Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition (GLINTCAP), the largest international cider competition in the world.
Ugly Apple also sells handmade charcuterie boards, hand-oiled, from wood harvested on the farm property, canes, and other woodworking.
