SCHEDULE OF EVENTS

Saturday, August 12, 2017
8:00 am – Welcome to our 18th Garlic Festival
9:30 am – The Best Garlic Contest – Garlic growers vie for the red ribbon in 5 categories. View the entries at the Events Tent until 12:30
10:00 am – Garlic Tasting Event begins – and will continue through to Sunday afternoon. Taste and compare different varieties of garlic.
10:00 am – Garlic Shots – back by popular demand – while supplies last.
10:30 am – Celebrity Chef Demo – Melanie Boudens from Grow Your Roots. Melanie started her business journey as a food-court vendor at the Carp Famers’ Market and has gone on to open her own a quaint vegan café on Hazeldean Road in Kanata. Melanie will be showing us how to create three simple ‘swaps’ for protein, cheese & creamy sauces.
11:30 am – Black Garlic: Cooking on the Sweet Side – Garlic Pantry. Pam, a real foodie and cook extraordinaire, will share her experiences cooking and experimenting with this unappreciated and exotic form of garlic. (Please note this is not a cooking demo, but tasty samples of sweets made from garlic will be available.)
12:00 pm – Braiding Garlic with Catherine Cheff from Cheff Fields Farm (Alpacas, Garlic & Honey). Catherine has been growing and braiding award winning garlic for over 20 years. Catherine will share her braiding techniques with both hardneck and softneck garlic to help you store your garlic longer over the winter.
12:30 pm – Jim Craig Memorial Award – for Best Booth. Jim was our Market Manager for many years, and many credit him for shaping the Carp Farmers’ Market into the great market it is today. Every year all the Garlic Festival booths are judged for such things as overall appearance, creative use of garlic in displays, incorporating elements of education, and more. As you visit from booth to booth today, you can imagine the difficulty the judges have. The winner will be presented with a Golden Garlic Pendant, designed and made by Eric and Christine Brackenbury, and will have their names engraved on the ‘Best Booth’ plaque.
1:00 pm – Celebrity Chef Demo – Natasha LeBlanc, from Tasha’s Table. Natasha, co-owner of Tasha’s Table, Preserves and Foodstuffs and co-farmer at Faraday Farmstead in Middleville, Ontario, will be cooking up Chimichurri Burgers with a grilled peach salad.
2:00 pm – Growing Garlic in the Permaculture Garden – Zach Loeks from Kula Permaculture Farm (formerly known as The Rainbow Heritage Garden) and author of The PERMACULTURE Market Garden. Permaculture gardening, growing garlic, putting it all together. Zach will also be available to answer your questions about growing garlic!
3:00 pm – The Festival closes for the day. See you on Sunday.

10:00 am – Doors open for Day 2.

2:00 pm – Making Black Garlic and Smoking Garlic with Bill Ableson from Garlic Pantry. Bill will also be available to answer any questions about growing garlic.
3:00 pm – The 2017 Garlic Festival is closed. See you next Saturday for a regular Carp Farmers’ Market (or next year for our 19th Garlic Festival).
